Where to go, What to do and What you need to remember when travelling this Easter.

As travel restrictions for the UK officially ended on the 18^th of March 2022, now is the perfect time to get away and enjoy a holiday (or two!). But after 2 years of potentially not travelling, where are you going to go? What are you going to do? And what if other countries still have travel restrictions? Well don’t worry, here at InsuraTrip we’ve got you covered with all the information you need when travelling this Easter.

What do you need to remember when travelling this Easter?

We are sure you remember the list of ‘pre-flight checks’ you would go through before leaving for you holiday before the pandemic hit. Whether it was making sure you had locked the doors and windows at home, checking you’ve packed enough clothes for your vacation or remembering your tickets, passports and booking confirmations, we know you had a lot on your plate. As such, we’ve put together this handy “Things to Remember” guide so that you can travel with confidence.

Insurance

As Travel Insurance specialists, we know just how important it is for you to get Travel Insurance to protect yourself and your trip should the worst happen. What is potentially the most important part of taking out a Travel Insurance product is make sure you double, and triple check your policy wording so that you know exactly what you are and are not covered for. For example, you won’t be covered if you are travelling for the purpose of receiving medical treatment abroad (this includes cosmetic surgery), and you also wouldn’t be covered if you travel to a country the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has advised against ‘all travel’ or ‘all but essential travel’. Similarly, you need to make sure that you are not underinsuring yourself on any sections of your policy, and the limits for each section meet your needs. For example, if the cost of your Baggage for your trip is worth £2,000 but your insurance only covers £1,500 worth of Baggage then you won’t be able to claim for the full £2,000, if it was lost or stolen, no matter how nicely you ask!

So, 1) Make sure you double, and triple check your policy wording, reading the sections of cover so you know what you are and are not covered for, 2) Make sure the level of cover you have purchased meets your needs, especially the sums insured for each section, ensuring, for example, your cancellation cover meets the value of the holiday, and 3) Enjoy your holiday with the peace of mind that you have cover!

Currency

It is so important to check which Currency the country you are visiting uses. While a lot of credit and debit cards are offering better exchange rates and lower fees these days and it’s possible to get currency cards, but it’s still extremely likely that you’re going to take out cash to take with you even just as a backup whilst you’re out there, so please make sure you exchange your money for the correct Currency.

For example, if you decide to travel to Croatia this Easter, you may be forgiven for thinking they accept Euros being in the EU… unfortunately for you, Croatia never moved away from the Kuna so please, before you travel this Easter, check what Currency you need.

Something else you may want to consider is where you are going to exchange your money. If you wait until you get to the airport, you are unlikely to be offered better exchange rates than you would get from any high street bank or supermarket for example. Your best bet is to shop around beforehand, find yourself the best exchange rate where you’re going to get the most for your money and exchange your money there. Even pre-booking and collecting from the airport can often be cheaper than exchanging on the day!

Travel Restrictions

Before you say it, yes, earlier we did mention that travel restrictions are easing… but this is for the UK, it is still essential to check the entry requirements for the country you intend to travel to. There would be nothing worse than trying to board the plane and being turned away at the airport, or worse, arriving at your destination and not being allowed to leave the airport.

It is also worth noting again that many Travel Insurance policies will exclude travel to any countries that the FCDO has advised against ‘all travel’ or ‘all but essential travel’ to, which back in 2020 was near enough every single holiday destination… so just make sure that the FCDO has said it is ok to travel to your intended destination.
