How to Understand Your InsuraWedding Policy

Planning a wedding can be stressful, but having wedding insurance can provide peace of mind. Here's a quick guide to the key sections of cover offered by a wedding insurance policy.

Section 1A & 1B: Cancellation and Rearrangement

  • Cancellation: If your wedding needs to be cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances, you're covered for irrecoverable expenses like ceremonial attire, flowers, photographs, catering, transport, accommodation, and other pre-paid services.
  • Rearrangement: Should you need to reschedule your wedding, the policy covers additional costs incurred to rearrange the event to a similar standard, provided these are pre-approved by the claims handlers.

Section 2: Ceremonial Attire

  • You're covered for the replacement or repair of bridal and ceremonial attire if it is lost or damaged within three months before the wedding, during the event, or immediately after for up to 48 hours.

Section 3: Wedding Gifts

  • This section covers loss or damage to wedding gifts due to accidents, fire, or theft while they are being transported, stored, or displayed at the reception.

Section 4: Rings, Flowers, Gifts, and Cake

  • Flowers and Cake: Covered from 36 hours before the wedding until the end of the reception. Protection is provided for loss or accidental damage during these specified times.

Section 5: Wedding Cars & Transport

  • If your hired wedding transport fails to show up, breaks down, or has an accident, you're covered for the additional costs of arranging alternative transport.

Section 6: Photography & Video

  • You're reimbursed for unforeseen expenses to retake wedding photos or videos if the professional photographer or videographer fails to appear. This section also covers loss or damage to original media before copies are made.

Section 7: Financial Failure of Wedding Service Suppliers

  • In case a pre-booked wedding service supplier goes bankrupt or into liquidation, you're covered for irrecoverable deposits and additional costs to arrange equivalent services.

Section 8: Personal Accident

  • Compensation is provided for injuries leading to death, permanent total disablement, loss of sight, or loss of limbs within 12 months of the accident.

Section 9: Legal Expenses

  • Covers legal costs and expenses if you need to pursue compensation or damages due to injury or death.

Section 10: Public Liability for the Couple

  • You're covered for legal liabilities arising from accidental injury to third parties or accidental damage to third-party property. This extends to your personal representatives in the event of your death.

  • Extends public liability cover to all wedding guests for accidental injury or damage to third-party property, up to £2 million.

Section 12: Optional Marquee & Equipment Cover

  • Covers loss or damage to marquees, mobile W.C. units, and event equipment during the hire period, limited to the value of the item at the time of loss or damage.

Section 13A & 13B: Optional Coronavirus Cover

  • Cancellation: Covers irrecoverable expenses if the wedding is cancelled due to the marrying couple or a relative contracting coronavirus within 10 days of the event.
